About Tarawera
The 1886 eruption was New Zealands deadliest, killing 120+ people. It destroyed the famous Pink and White Terraces, once considered the 8th wonder of the world. The eruption created a 17 km rift. The terraces were rediscovered under Lake Rotomahana in 2011.
