The 2022 eruption was the largest since Krakatoa. It produced a tsunami that reached the Americas, a sonic boom that circled the globe, and injected 146 Tg of water into the stratosphere. The ash plume reached 58 km - the highest ever recorded. It temporarily increased global water vapor by 10%.
