The 2021 eruption lasted 85 days, destroying 3,000+ buildings and forcing evacuation of 7,000 people on La Palma. Lava flows created 48 hectares of new land. It was the first eruption on La Palma since 1971. The eruption produced spectacular lava fountains and ash plumes.
